About The Site

The Gaming Emporium was founded way back in December of 2004 by Skittles and Damodar, as a forum in which to document their gaming experiences. Shortly afterwards, Ignignort joined up, and the forum became a meeting place for like-minded friends. Though many people came and went over the years, the small community of friends from near and far remained. Now after several iterations and a number of name changes, The Gaming Emporium is set to be the best it can be, casting a professional yet casual eye over the gaming industry. That is, after we decide on a new name...

Street Fighter IV's Line-Up Leaked?

Apparently the Street Fighter IV mobile phone game side may have accidentally leaked this picture of the game's line-up, which possibly and probably mirrors it's full-sized counterpart's line-up. No word yet on whether this is the case, but feel free to take a look at the list!

Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Breaks Sales Records
The first installment of Penny Arcade Adventures - On The Rain-Slick Precipice (god I love saying precipice) of Darkness, Episode One, has broken sales records on Xbox Live Arcade, moving $330,000 worth of digital content in three days. Keeping in mind these are just sales for the Xbox, and the game was also launched for Windows, Mac and Linux.

New RPG to Hit 360 and PC

A new RPG for the 360 and PC is in production, titled Venetica. The name itself isn't too bad, and the story sounds promising, provided they present it well and don't run into too many cliches. You will play as Scarlett, the daughter of Death, in a quest to destroy an evil necromancer who is determined to be the next death, after which he'll pretty much kill everything he can get his hands/scythe on. Like I said, I think it will all be in the presentation.

Kil'jaeden down!

For those of you who still like to hear a bit of World of Warcraft news now and then, here's a big announcement for you. Kil'jaeden, the demonic leader of the Burning Legion has fallen to the guild SK Gaming. Kil'jaeden was introduced with the latest patch (2.4? 2.5? whatever) titled Fury of the Sunwell, and marks the final encounter before the next expansion.

What Are You Playing This Weekend?

Well here I am with a fresh cooked bowl of creamy pumpkin soup, and my LaBeouf sippy cup, ready to get stuck into the weekend. Unfortunately JB Hi-Fi hasn't yet got their shipment of Age of Conan, even though EB got theirs yesterday, so I won't be getting into that yet. That's probably a good thing though, since I've got Rain-Slick to go on with today, and a review to write once I'm done. This is also the last week of term for schools, so I've got to get a bunch of assessments and reading done, in time for training next week, and I don't really need Conan stealing me away from that - though I'll probably end up buying it on Monday anyway.

So really, all I'll be playing this weekend is On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, and possibly some Viva Pinata tomorrow while I relax and get my assessments in order.

So what are you playing?

Morning News - Friday the 23rd of May

Penny Arcade Adventures - Released!

The much anticipated (by me at least) Penny Arcade Adventures : On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One has been released, and is available for download on the PC, Mac, Linux and Xbox Live. I had the pleasure of playing this since I got home last night, until I went to bed, and I must say I'm enjoying it immensely. If you're a fan of Penny Arcade or just a fan of ridiculous games, check it out.

BioShock for PS3 - Confirmed, sorta.
It's long been a rumor that BioShock would be hitting the PS3, and it looks like that rumor can now be confirmed (sorta) with new details surfacing on a magazine cover. Not the most trustworthy location to get your news, but people seem to be buying it.

New Oddworld Game In Production

Everyone should have fond memories of playing the classic sidescrolling puzzle-adventures Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exodus. Some may even recall Munch's Oddysee with a degree of fondness, and other still might have actually played Stranger's Wrath. For those of you who still hold Oddworld in a special place in your hearts, fear not! An announcement has just been made declaring the next game in the series to be in production.

Some Guy I've Never Heard of Makes Shit Up For Attention
CEO of WildTangent, the self-proclaimed fourth largest Private Gaming Network in the United States, St.John, has claimed that Console Gaming is dying, and now is the time of the PC Renaissance. Personally I don't believe a word he's saying. PC and Console gaming both have a future, but if sales figures are anything to go by, it looks like Console gaming has a brighter future.

The 7 Most Evil Things You Can Do In GTA4

A list of the top 7 most evil things you can do in GTA4 has surfaced over at Slobsofgaming, though honestly I think it's pretty pissweak. You could probably put the list together by reading the back of the case and hypothesising a little. Personally my most evil moment was when I came across a Rabbi whose car had broken down. I rammed my car into him, wedging him between his car and mine, and squished him around a little. Then I jumped out of my car, stole his money and his car, and took it on a chase through town, before blowing it and the cops that were following me up in a petrol station.

Morning News

Mirror's Edge

I'm sure some of you already saw screens of this game a month or so ago, but from this video it's clear we've got a hit on our hands. We already know people go spastic over being able to run, jump and climb, so why should this game be any different? I'm ready to get hyped about this one, especially after reading this quote from senior producer Owen O'Brien

"Principally, this is an action adventure. We're not positioning this as a shooter - the focus isn't on the gun, it's on the person."

Check out Wikipedia for some more information.

Lost Winds

In an attempt to hide my bias towards big brand titles on the PS3 and 360, I'll now mention Lost Winds for the Wii. Lost Winds is a Platform Adventure game in which you control a small boy named Toku (presumably with the nunchuk) as well as the wind (presumably with the Wiimote). By harnessing the power of the wind to lift your character, defeat enemies and solve puzzles, you can zzzzz zzzzz zzzz boring.

Farcry 2

The Far Cry license has passed on from CryTek and on to Ubisoft's Montreal studio, and the those damned French Canadians have been hard at work producing a game that doesn't involve screwing around in tropical islands. In a wholly original move, Far Cry 2 heads to war torn Africa, and presents you with an open world, with one mission : Kill the Strelok Jackal. The Jackal is an arms dealer, who has been providing weapons to both sides of the conflict, fueling the war that is tearing the country apart. In order to track the Jackal, you must complete missions for both sides of the conflict, in any manner you see fit. Sounds like an interesting game to me, and I'll probably check it out when it hits, unless they do something to anger me between now and then.

Haze Demo in Early May
Well I suppose I could muster up some excitement for this title, but that will probably come about a day before the demo hits. The demo itself, which is set to drop sometime during May (presumeably before the games supposed launch on the 20th), will feature both single-player, four-player drop-in drop-out co-op play, and more hyphens than you can poke a stick at.

New LittleBigPlanet Video

It's nothing new, but its enough to whet your appetite for some LBP action, if it needed whetting at all. Also I'm noticing there seems to be a resurgance of sponge over fluff. Personally I liked sponge, and the satisfying sound it makes in the videos better.

Rumor : Scenes Removed From GTA4 in Australia/New Zealand
The Aussies here, and possibly the US/Canada people too would know that Australia does not currently have an R18+ rating for games. As such, any game that is too violent/explicit/whatever to recieve an MA rating, gets the ban hammer instead. The Grand Theft Auto series is probably the most notorious game in media history, even with the recent publicity that Manhunt 2 recieved. As such, Rockstar decided to remove some content from the game, just in case. Hit the link for the rumored removed content.

Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack has Landed
And it's awesome. I downloaded this last night and had a fiddle around in a couple of the maps last night, and both are guaranteed hits. Blackout feels exactly like its predecessor Lockout, and as memories of the map came flooding back to me, I found myself taking leaps of faith off the sides of the level, hoping I was remembering correctly the walk-way waiting for me below. Avalanche is also highly pleasing, and really takes Sidewinder and pulls it into the current generation of Halo. All the key areas have survived the transition, and the result is the first true Vehicle vs Vehicle, large scale map of Halo 3. Capture the Flag on this map will be amazing, and I've already created my own take on it in forge.

Dualshock 3 Release Confirmed!

The Australian release of the DS3 has just been confirmed as the 24th of April, and will retail for $100 AUS. Personally I've got nothing against the idea of the controller having rumble, and I probably wouldn't mind the extra weight the controller is said to have. However as Ignignokt would say, $100 is playing far out your ass for it, and I won't be picking one up unless my Sixaxis dies.

Universe at War Demo on XBL now!
Finally an RTS that can actually be played on a console? You be the judge. Although the full game has been out for some time, the demo for this has just hit, and if you've got a 360 I suggest you check it out. I picked it up recently on the PC and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

GTA4 360 > GTA4 PS3?
Well that's what you the gaming public are saying. Last week Joystiq ran a poll on almost 40,000 people, asking which system they'll be playing GTA4 on and why. The final tally shows Xbox360 at 58%, PS3 at 42%. The reasons why? DLC and Achievement whoring.

Atari Reboot
Directeur Général Délégué Phil Harrison and Infogrames CEO David Gardner have announced the possibility of dropping the name Infogrames, and rebooting the business simply as Atari. This is all part of their plan to revitalise one of the gaming industry's oldest and well-known brands, and presumeably make a lot of money in the process. Personally I'd like to see a switcheroo take place, with Infogrames adopting the name Atari, which is currently a subsidiary of Infogrames, and creating a new subsidiary called Infogrames. But then I'm an idiot.

Bourne Rocks the Shit Next Month.
As if XBL aren't getting enough demos, next month it will be recieving a demo of the much anticipated Bourne Conspiracy game.
